Bath Comedy Festival in association with Off The Kerb Productions

The British Comedy Award nominee and star of Live At The Apollo and 8 Out Of 10 Cats is embarking on a nationwide tour to complain about the state of the world and offer no solutions.  Since his last show he has become a husband and father, seen the UK vote to leave the EU and watched the rise of Donald Trump, all of which leaves him asking one question, why does it seem that no one else alive can correctly load a dishwasher?

Come and see what Jon Richardson can do with words when he has more than thirty seconds to work with.  Or should that be "with which to work"?

Best known as team captain on '8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown', Jon has been massively in demand for television and radio appearances including; 'Have I Got News For You' (BBC ONE), 'Live At The Apollo' (BBC ONE), 'Channel 4's Comedy Gala Live At The 02' and most recently 'Taskmaster' (DAVE).

"Jon Richardson is developing into a quietly sophisticated comedian who is at turns hilarious and disturbing and under no circumstances should you miss" **** - The Mirror

"one of our most individual and interesting stand-ups" **** - The Times

"Sublimely brilliant, stunning..." - Time Out

"For 10 years he has been among the funniest men in Britain" - The Mirror

CANCELLED

We're sorry to report that due to extended commitments abroad, Sarah has regretfully had to cancel her shows in Bath.

One dimwit comedian's every dumb decision. Presented in list form. 50 great mistakes guaranteed.

The acclaimed 2017 Edinburgh Fringe solo stand-up show by the Melbourne-born, London-based comedian.

As heard on BBC Radio 4, 'Sarah Bennetto's Mix-Tape', Glastonbury backstage radio and at the helm of Storytellers' Club.

Warning: Something really, really bad happens to a piñata in this show.

"A generous serving of sterling gags and astutely witty observations." - Steve Bennett, Chortle UK

"In sharing her litany of mistakes, Bennetto covers huge, emotive topics with the lightest of touch and a lightning-fast wit, rattling through stories and quips so quickly that they don't have the opportunity to land too heavily. She's also in perfect command of the pacing, so when she does want to touch hearts as well as minds...it keeps the audience spellbound." **** The Skinny

"With much glee, delight, and wonderfully evocative imagery, Sarah is an excellent performer, frank and genuine, telling relatable stories which are fun and funny. The last mistake is totally unexpected and unheralded – and all the more powerful for being so." **** One4Revew

"Superb. Devastating. Edges towards perfection." **** ThreeWeeks, UK

Duration: 55min
Price: £10 / £7.50 concs (see below *)

Leading impressionist Julian Dutton brings to life one of Britain's best-loved comedy stars, revealing the man behind the wry smile and urbane English repartee that charmed millions and turned John Le Mesurier into a household name as Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army.

Le Mesurier's life was not without tragedy - his broken marriage to Hattie Jacques, his betrayal by his best friend Tony Hancock - all these setbacks shook him, but his reputation as the quintessential English Gentleman never wavered.

Full of glorious reminiscences and stories from a Golden Age of British Comedy, Julian Dutton's show is a celebration of and an insight into one of the most popular comic actors of our era.

From the co-creator & co-star of BBC1's The Big Impression, BBC R4's The Secret World and BBC2's Pompidou

"An impressionist tour de force" - Independent.

"One of the best vocal performers around" - BBC Comedy

Ever since he was a small boy, all Evans really wanted was to be recognised by the world as a man of genius. He has, until now, remained thwarted.

The world seems increasingly indifferent to true genius of any kind, let alone Evans'. Endlessly distracted by the trivial, we allow the classical tools of grammar, logic and rhetoric to lie unregarded in the shed of consciousness, rusting to a picturesque hue that would actually look really great on Instagram. But which filter? Hmm...

This flagship 5 star cabaret show is here in Bath for a full six day run Sun 1st - Fri 6th April at Bath Comedy Festival's favourite flexible venue and bar - Widcombe Social Club. Don't miss it!

Equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret.

"Not only vocally sublime but a stroke of comedy genius" (TheatrePress), its critically acclaimed stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood return to the U.K. after playing to sold out crowds in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh and across Australia.

Mother's Ruin is a raucous journey through 18th Century London, a few New York speakeasies, the Australian bush and the jungles of Peru. Discover a little more about your favourite drop, with this mixed up musical history lesson delivered with dry wit and "almost symbiotic harmonies" (Adelaide Advertiser).

With music originally performed by Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Martha Wainwright, Tom Waits, The Pretenders, Jessie J and more, Mother's Ruin moves from misery to vaudeville in a moment, intertwining excess and prohibition, history and (re)invention.

"...Marsden and Wood maintain a spot-on balance of larky humour, bolshy political consciousness, palpable passion for their subject and sheer joie de vivre. Well worth raising a glass to." **** The Scotsman

"A raucous masterclass" ***** The Wee Review

"...it's the range, depth, and content of the stories Marsden and Wood tell us, along with the gorgeous harmony of their pure voices, that linger once the cabaret is over." ***** Time Out Sydney

"Blisteringly entertaining… Not everybody falls in love with gin, but I can't imagine too many audience members could resist the charms of Mother's Ruin." **** Daily Review

Markus Birdman - Grimm Realities

Duration: 1hr
Price: £10

Growing up, my preacherman father made me draw Bible stories. I don't remember the stories, but I draw great.

The 5 Star Edinburgh Fringe sell-out show, nominated for Amused Moose Best Show Award, from the NZ Comedy Guild Best international Comedian Award Nominee.

A modern day comedic and visual take on those Grimm's classics, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. A reality tale for the 21st century. A children's fable for adults.

My previous shows had short jokes, and tall stories. I thought it was high time to combine these with my drawings. Especially since Rolf Harris left a gap in the market.

"Birdman's show is a triumph. Grimm Realities deals with coming to terms with his daughter growing up, with a mixture of comical perspectives and re-imagined fairy tales. Not so filthy that it's crass, but filthy and clever enough to warrant constant laughter from the audience." ***** Edinburgh Reporter

"Probably the most absorbing show I have seen. Completely spellbinding." **** Chortle

"Meditative but not mournful, he makes us feel part of his story. Hugely enjoyable and lots of ruddy good gags." **** Scotsman

STOP PRESS - THE BATH PLUG 2018

When Bath Comedy Festival launched the Bath Plug Award, with Terry Jones as our first winner in 2015, followed by subsequent esteemed comedy greats Peter Richardson and Barry Cryer, it may have seemed like a 'lifetime achievement award', but in fact The Bath Plug is awarded every year to those who have proven themselves outstanding comic talents, no matter at which end of their career they are; particularly for good friends of the Festival and performers and writers who have provided a unique voice in British comedy.

Rachel Parris has often returned to Bath, and now her brand of smiling satire has gone viral (in a good way) around the world. We're honoured to make her the 4th recipient of the Festival's prestigious piece of bathroom ephemera, while we can.

At the end of this show there will be a short presentation by co-creators of The Bath Plug - respected aficionado, comedy historian and author Jem Roberts and Festival Director Nick Steel.

This time last year, it seemed highly unlikely the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn't going to beat Hilary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal, a year later it's all gone to absolute shit! But don't worry, as Mark thinks Every Little Thing's Gonna Be Alright.

Mark's sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of Radio 4's Mark Steel's in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year, is back on the road with a new show, guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is.

Mark has written and presented many series of Mark Steel's In Town on BBC Radio 4 (new series out soon) and toured it live around the UK. Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One's Have I Got News For You and Radio 4's News Quiz. He's also appeared on BBC2's QI and Room 101. Doug Stanhope

Caustic social commentary, outlandish first-person narratives, graphic sex and perversion, sometimes within the same sentence.

Fueled by equal amounts of anger, outrage and alcohol, Stanhope rails against western civilization's slide into apathy and stupidity, always on the edge of implosion yet fully in control and never afraid to risk pissing off his audiences.

In a field crowded with conformists and copycats, Stanhope is a genuinely original comic voice, albeit a gleefully vulgar one. "A visionary douchebag" says The Times. Raw, agitated and unflinching, he holds forth on all manner of major injustices and petty annoyances, excoriating himself as much as any of his other targets. But Stanhope's venomous bile is matched by his passion and conviction, as well as a fierce intellect that gives his work a level of substance and subtlety that belies his snarling exterior. His comedy is as corrosive as it is hilarious, and his righteous self-immolation is exhilarating and life-affirming in its cathartic honesty.

"Stanhope shocks you with the virulence of his lucidity; he shocks you into realising how transparent the confidence trick of western propaganda can be made to seem. What he has in abundance is the charm, don't-give-a-damn swagger and aggressive intelligence that make for important, exciting comedy" - The Guardian

"Doug Stanhope might be the most important standup working today" - Ricky Gervais

Legendary club comic, Fringe stalwart and raconteur of darkness, Carey Marx, with his latest Edinburgh show.

Donald Trump is President so sod it. Carey's going to do what he wants.

Taking a lesson from the leader of the free world, Carey's decided to become arrogant, certain and unapologetic. What happens when he's above reproach? Greatness happens. Yes, everything Carey turns his hand to becomes magically magnificent.

Goodbye integrity and humility. Hello delusion and dishonesty.

This show is going to be the best thing in history. Definitely.

Nick Page - Page Against The Machine

Nick Page, semi-finalist in this year's Britain's Got Talent, has been a Bath Comedy favourite for many years.

Earlier this year Cheltenham-born Nick, who classifies himself as ‘educated scum' discovered that his Wikipedia entry had been deleted because he was 'no longer notable' (he had previously been listed as a stand up, writer, and presenter of BBC's Escape to the country…) He thinks this is caused by his refusal to engage with the industry beyond turning up, making audiences laugh and then going home to tinker with lawnmowers!

Nick's unique style of writing and delivery enables him to link things as diverse as police detention in Indonesia, a manifesto for a better world, planning permission, pizza ovens, the world's worst dog and bovine artificial insemination so that they make sense. From failure to failure via a suicide attempt and some more failure, Page is still winning, even if he's still not in Wikipedia!

Recently Nick was awarded the Operational Service Medal after numerous tours in active warzones performing for military (shows varied from main base shows to 12000 down to patrol base gigs for 20. He is currently developing a sitcom about his time in the car trade, which was exactly as villainous and chaotic as you would think! He previously lost a publishing deal for a book about the equestrian world after litigation from his ex wife! He has a degree in International Politics and far Eastern History (useful!). His many other jobs include working as a bouncer, a parliamentary researcher and estate agent, before doing his first gig at 31 for a bet.
