Bath Comedy Festival in association with Off The Kerb Productions

The British Comedy Award nominee and star of Live At The Apollo and 8 Out Of 10 Cats is embarking on a nationwide tour to complain about the state of the world and offer no solutions.  Since his last show he has become a husband and father, seen the UK vote to leave the EU and watched the rise of Donald Trump, all of which leaves him asking one question, why does it seem that no one else alive can correctly load a dishwasher?

Come and see what Jon Richardson can do with words when he has more than thirty seconds to work with.  Or should that be "with which to work"?

Best known as team captain on '8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown', Jon has been massively in demand for television and radio appearances including; 'Have I Got News For You' (BBC ONE), 'Live At The Apollo' (BBC ONE), 'Channel 4's Comedy Gala Live At The 02' and most recently 'Taskmaster' (DAVE).

"Jon Richardson is developing into a quietly sophisticated comedian who is at turns hilarious and disturbing and under no circumstances should you miss" **** - The Mirror

"one of our most individual and interesting stand-ups" **** - The Times

"Sublimely brilliant, stunning..." - Time Out

"For 10 years he has been among the funniest men in Britain" - The Mirror

CANCELLED

We're sorry to report that due to extended commitments abroad, Sarah has regretfully had to cancel her shows in Bath.

One dimwit comedian's every dumb decision. Presented in list form. 50 great mistakes guaranteed.

The acclaimed 2017 Edinburgh Fringe solo stand-up show by the Melbourne-born, London-based comedian.

As heard on BBC Radio 4, 'Sarah Bennetto's Mix-Tape', Glastonbury backstage radio and at the helm of Storytellers' Club.

Warning: Something really, really bad happens to a piñata in this show.

"A generous serving of sterling gags and astutely witty observations." - Steve Bennett, Chortle UK

"In sharing her litany of mistakes, Bennetto covers huge, emotive topics with the lightest of touch and a lightning-fast wit, rattling through stories and quips so quickly that they don't have the opportunity to land too heavily. She's also in perfect command of the pacing, so when she does want to touch hearts as well as minds...it keeps the audience spellbound." **** The Skinny

"With much glee, delight, and wonderfully evocative imagery, Sarah is an excellent performer, frank and genuine, telling relatable stories which are fun and funny. The last mistake is totally unexpected and unheralded – and all the more powerful for being so." **** One4Revew

"Superb. Devastating. Edges towards perfection." **** ThreeWeeks, UK

Duration: 55min
Price: £10 / £7.50 concs (see below *)

Leading impressionist Julian Dutton brings to life one of Britain's best-loved comedy stars, revealing the man behind the wry smile and urbane English repartee that charmed millions and turned John Le Mesurier into a household name as Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army.

Le Mesurier's life was not without tragedy - his broken marriage to Hattie Jacques, his betrayal by his best friend Tony Hancock - all these setbacks shook him, but his reputation as the quintessential English Gentleman never wavered.

Full of glorious reminiscences and stories from a Golden Age of British Comedy, Julian Dutton's show is a celebration of and an insight into one of the most popular comic actors of our era.

From the co-creator & co-star of BBC1's The Big Impression, BBC R4's The Secret World and BBC2's Pompidou

"An impressionist tour de force" - Independent.

"One of the best vocal performers around" - BBC Comedy

Ever since he was a small boy, all Evans really wanted was to be recognised by the world as a man of genius. He has, until now, remained thwarted.

The world seems increasingly indifferent to true genius of any kind, let alone Evans'. Endlessly distracted by the trivial, we allow the classical tools of grammar, logic and rhetoric to lie unregarded in the shed of consciousness, rusting to a picturesque hue that would actually look really great on Instagram. But which filter? Hmm...

This flagship 5 star cabaret show is here in Bath for a full six day run Sun 1st - Fri 6th April at Bath Comedy Festival's favourite flexible venue and bar - Widcombe Social Club. Don't miss it!

Equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret.

"Not only vocally sublime but a stroke of comedy genius" (TheatrePress), its critically acclaimed stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood return to the U.K. after playing to sold out crowds in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh and across Australia.

Mother's Ruin is a raucous journey through 18th Century London, a few New York speakeasies, the Australian bush and the jungles of Peru. Discover a little more about your favourite drop, with this mixed up musical history lesson delivered with dry wit and "almost symbiotic harmonies" (Adelaide Advertiser).

With music originally performed by Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Martha Wainwright, Tom Waits, The Pretenders, Jessie J and more, Mother's Ruin moves from misery to vaudeville in a moment, intertwining excess and prohibition, history and (re)invention.

"...Marsden and Wood maintain a spot-on balance of larky humour, bolshy political consciousness, palpable passion for their subject and sheer joie de vivre. Well worth raising a glass to." **** The Scotsman

"A raucous masterclass" ***** The Wee Review

"...it's the range, depth, and content of the stories Marsden and Wood tell us, along with the gorgeous harmony of their pure voices, that linger once the cabaret is over." ***** Time Out Sydney

"Blisteringly entertaining… Not everybody falls in love with gin, but I can't imagine too many audience members could resist the charms of Mother's Ruin." **** Daily Review

A liberating diagnosis, as she can now legitimately embrace her bitchier side; so watch out fussy eaters, over-sharers, and definitely that busy-body of a neighbour who's not returned a single one of her home produced surveys on local off street parking.

Markus Birdman - Grimm Realities

Duration: 1hr
Price: £10

Growing up, my preacherman father made me draw Bible stories. I don't remember the stories, but I draw great.

The 5 Star Edinburgh Fringe sell-out show, nominated for Amused Moose Best Show Award, from the NZ Comedy Guild Best international Comedian Award Nominee.

A modern day comedic and visual take on those Grimm's classics, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. A reality tale for the 21st century. A children's fable for adults.

My previous shows had short jokes, and tall stories. I thought it was high time to combine these with my drawings. Especially since Rolf Harris left a gap in the market.

"Birdman's show is a triumph. Grimm Realities deals with coming to terms with his daughter growing up, with a mixture of comical perspectives and re-imagined fairy tales. Not so filthy that it's crass, but filthy and clever enough to warrant constant laughter from the audience." ***** Edinburgh Reporter

"Probably the most absorbing show I have seen. Completely spellbinding." **** Chortle

"Meditative but not mournful, he makes us feel part of his story. Hugely enjoyable and lots of ruddy good gags." **** Scotsman

STOP PRESS - THE BATH PLUG 2018

When Bath Comedy Festival launched the Bath Plug Award, with Terry Jones as our first winner in 2015, followed by subsequent esteemed comedy greats Peter Richardson and Barry Cryer, it may have seemed like a 'lifetime achievement award', but in fact The Bath Plug is awarded every year to those who have proven themselves outstanding comic talents, no matter at which end of their career they are; particularly for good friends of the Festival and performers and writers who have provided a unique voice in British comedy.

Rachel Parris has often returned to Bath, and now her brand of smiling satire has gone viral (in a good way) around the world. We're honoured to make her the 4th recipient of the Festival's prestigious piece of bathroom ephemera, while we can.

At the end of this show there will be a short presentation by co-creators of The Bath Plug - respected aficionado, comedy historian and author Jem Roberts and Festival Director Nick Steel.

This time last year, it seemed highly unlikely the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn't going to beat Hilary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal, a year later it's all gone to absolute shit! But don't worry, as Mark thinks Every Little Thing's Gonna Be Alright.

Mark's sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of Radio 4's Mark Steel's in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year, is back on the road with a new show, guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is.

Mark has written and presented many series of Mark Steel's In Town on BBC Radio 4 (new series out soon) and toured it live around the UK. Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One's Have I Got News For You and Radio 4's News Quiz. He's also appeared on BBC2's QI and Room 101. Caustic social commentary, outlandish first-person narratives, graphic sex and perversion, sometimes within the same sentence.

Fueled by equal amounts of anger, outrage and alcohol, Stanhope rails against western civilization's slide into apathy and stupidity, always on the edge of implosion yet fully in control and never afraid to risk pissing off his audiences.

In a field crowded with conformists and copycats, Stanhope is a genuinely original comic voice, albeit a gleefully vulgar one. "A visionary douchebag" says The Times. Raw, agitated and unflinching, he holds forth on all manner of major injustices and petty annoyances, excoriating himself as much as any of his other targets. But Stanhope's venomous bile is matched by his passion and conviction, as well as a fierce intellect that gives his work a level of substance and subtlety that belies his snarling exterior. His comedy is as corrosive as it is hilarious, and his righteous self-immolation is exhilarating and life-affirming in its cathartic honesty.

"Stanhope shocks you with the virulence of his lucidity; he shocks you into realising how transparent the confidence trick of western propaganda can be made to seem. What he has in abundance is the charm, don't-give-a-damn swagger and aggressive intelligence that make for important, exciting comedy" - The Guardian

"Doug Stanhope might be the most important standup working today" - Ricky Gervais

Legendary club comic, Fringe stalwart and raconteur of darkness, Carey Marx, with his latest Edinburgh show.

Donald Trump is President so sod it. Carey's going to do what he wants.

Taking a lesson from the leader of the free world, Carey's decided to become arrogant, certain and unapologetic. What happens when he's above reproach? Greatness happens. Yes, everything Carey turns his hand to becomes magically magnificent.

Goodbye integrity and humility. Hello delusion and dishonesty.

This show is going to be the best thing in history. Definitely.

Carey Marx is internationally renowned for his unique brand of dark humour and caustic wit. Since the mid '90s Neil has entertained enthusiastic audiences across the world with his unique mixture of music, comedy, and comment.

The Bonzos collaboration with Monty Python started in 1968 with the TV series 'Do Not Adjust Your Set' and continued into the following decades. Meanwhile Neil formed the hilarious Beatles parody band The Rutles with Eric Idle and starred in his own hugely popular TV series 'The Innes Book of Records'.

Nick Page, semi-finalist in this year's Britain's Got Talent, has been a Bath Comedy favourite for many years.

Earlier this year Cheltenham-born Nick, who classifies himself as ‘educated scum' discovered that his Wikipedia entry had been deleted because he was 'no longer notable' (he had previously been listed as a stand up, writer, and presenter of BBC's Escape to the country…) He thinks this is caused by his refusal to engage with the industry beyond turning up, making audiences laugh and then going home to tinker with lawnmowers!

Nick's unique style of writing and delivery enables him to link things as diverse as police detention in Indonesia, a manifesto for a better world, planning permission, pizza ovens, the world's worst dog and bovine artificial insemination so that they make sense. From failure to failure via a suicide attempt and some more failure, Page is still winning, even if he's still not in Wikipedia!

Recently Nick was awarded the Operational Service Medal after numerous tours in active warzones performing for military (shows varied from main base shows to 12000 down to patrol base gigs for 20). He is currently developing a sitcom about his time in the car trade, which was exactly as villainous and chaotic as you would think! He previously lost a publishing deal for a book about the equestrian world after litigation from his ex wife! He has a degree in International Politics and far Eastern History (useful!). His many other jobs include working as a bouncer, a parliamentary researcher and estate agent, before doing his first gig at 31 for a bet.

With support from Anna Kierle

Award winning Anna Keirle counts Russell Brand among her fans. one of her biggest achievements is winning 'The Weakest Link' , the other is surviving a childhood of mohair jumpers.
"Daffy Cornish bumpkin Keirle has funny in her veins, with a disarming daftness and an endearingly babbling manner...a comedy star" - Chortle

Matt Price - Broken Hooters And Geezers With Shooters

Date: Tuesday 9th April, 2019
Venue: Ring O Bells
Doors: 7.00pm for 7.30pm show
Duration: 1hr
Price: £8

click to book online

Matt Price was asked to work on a writing project with a former criminal. From day one, he was out of his depth...

Matt ("Fearlessly funny" **** The Scotsman) has been to a high profile criminal's funeral and stood outside the church with a biker gang and a 'body guard' who had learning difficulties. He once played monopoly with a Russian drug dealer and was sent an ill fitting stab proof vest and a spoon through the post.

As Steve Bennett from Chortle said, Matt Price is "a genuine, ordinary guy spinning some yarns, extraordinary in their telling" **** On the surface at six foot three and twenty stone, Matt looks as though he may blend into the criminal underworld quite well, until he blows his cover by speaking.

This is a show about learning your limitations and embracing them. It's about facing fears. It's about realising that actually, not being a tough guy isn't such a bad thing after all. Sometimes it's sensible to run away. Some people travel to Nepal or India to try and find themselves. Matt spent hundreds of hours at a retired criminal's house, mixing with people that he never even knew existed.

He doesn't have that many answers as to why people do bad things. But he has a lot of stories and he's learned a lot too.

"I don't understand why he isn't better known" ***** One4Review

Matt Price has been a professional comedian for over ten years and has performed in 30 countries, including 4 tours of Australia. He is a versatile performer who tells a great yarn, usually from the wilder side of life, but one that will make you laugh. He is not a geezer and his hooter remains unbroken.

"Storytelling comedy, necessitates a level of honesty I like. And Price is one of the best at it around" - Scotland on Sunday

Rev. Ravi Holy, former wild child who tried to sell his soul to Satan – who took out a restraining order. Now a regular on BBC Radio 2's Pause for Thought.

Rev. Kate Bruce, who used to work at the hot end of a crematorium and is now a chaplain somewhere so important that she's not allowed to tell us.

Together, they are performing in an unholy trinity of laughter.

You couldn't make it up; surely the German Comedy Ambassador Henning Wehn hasn't bosched out yet another new show? And what's he still doing here anyway? Well, his lack of transferable skills is what keeps him here and his belief that practise makes perfect is what keeps him going.

This show is a much needed call to arms. Listen, everyone: stop pondering and hand-wringing. Instead get on your bike and put your face to the grindstone!

"As subtle as Schumacher on Battiston" - some bloke on Twitter

"Die entgueltige Teilung Europas - das ist mein Auftrag" - Henning himself

Henning's most recent television and radio appearances include "Live At The Apollo" BBC2, "Have I Got News For You" BBC1, "Would I Lie To You" BBC1, "8 Out Of Cats Does Countdown" Channel 4, "Fighting Talk" BBC Radio 5 Live and "The Unbelievable Truth" BBC Radio 4.

This time last year, Garrett Millerick’s 'Sunflower' was intended to be a 100% pure comedy show with no agendas, no left, no right and no sad stories - a show named after his favourite Beach Boys album and written to contrast the horror of world events.

But a brutal rollercoaster of events derailed this plan and Garrett was faced with the choice of cancelling the show or finding the path to complete it in a few short weeks.

Sunflower emerged as a testament to the power of comedy to carry us through the whatever life throws at us and became one of the most talked about, critically acclaimed and powerful shows of Edinburgh 2018.

Nick Harper - 58 Fordwych Road

Duration: 2hrs
Price: £15

Nick Harper is one the UK's best kept musical secrets. Those who have witnessed the spellbinding, one-man show will tell you this.

A childhood growing up surrounded by the musical prowess of some of the 60's most revered songwriters & musicians, not to mention being son of Roy Harper, along with 20 years of crafting songs & touring the land has spawned a truly one-off, original guitarist & songwriter who stands alone as a UK great, to be cherished & revered.

'58 Fordwych Road' is an all new show that centres around a living room in a small flat in Kilburn, London in the mid 1960s. Then the abode of up-and-coming singer-songwriter Roy Harper & his wife Mocy. The flat was an after hours hang-out for the legends who played at Les Cousins in Soho at the height of the acoustic explosion in swingin' sixties London.

People like Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, Paul Simon, Marc Bolan, Sandy Denny & others dropped in, to drop out, jam & try new tunes. But, all along, there was someone else there...a toddler, part of the family, inhaling the music & absorbing the vibe; Roy's young son, Nick Harper. Nick later carved out his own career in music, but in this unique & one-off show he plays tribute to the time, the place & to the music that became the centre of everything for him & the rest of this 'family'.

The show will run over two halves. The first will see Nick delve into the deluge of songs he heard direct from the greats when growing up. In the second Nick will trace the journey of how these luminary figures' music evolved & helped shape popular music beyond the sixties & revisit the eternal themes that run from then to now in songs of his own fine repertoire.

"Harper has so much musicianship in him it just leaks out all over the place" - The Times
"He deserves to become a major figure in his own right" - The Guardian
"Dylan for the iPod generation...Betjemen with a guitar" - Guitarist
"My musical discovery of 2016!" - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
"One of the finest guitarists of his generation" - Mojo
"Acoustic Hendrix!" - Guitar Magazine
"Hey, the boy is good!" - Robert Plant
"That boy is too good." - Bert Jansch

A tale of humiliation and bliss

"Even after 27 years of stand-up comedy, I still have a handful of stories I've been too embarrassed to tell anyone. This is my attempt to turn some humiliation and regret into a powerful force for good. Far from being just another lurid shock humor piece disguised as introspection, Boundaries is couched as my hopes and concerns for my young daughter in a sincere - even desperate - desire to give her a few simple tools to prepare her for her own journey out into the world. It is an autobiographical 90 minutes that is simultaneously endearing, horrifying, cathartic and funny. It involves one Alaskan brown bear, an art teacher, the Soviet Union, an English dancer, an African ostrich, an Arab prince, an arrest, one old lady, India, a fight at Applebee's restaurant, and the lingering question, 'Is your heart healthy enough for sex?' Bath Fringe is its Festival world premiere."

David Crowe is an American stand-up comedian. His delivery is a hybrid of jokes and long form story telling which has drawn comparisons to the likes of Billy Connolly and Robin Williams. He has won the Seattle and San Francisco Comedy Competitions and his comedy specials have appeared on Showtime, Comedy Central and most recently Dry Bar. Oh, and his mother is from Scunthorpe.

Pete Searles - Hey Gringo! A Chile Christmas

Duration: 1hr50min incl interval
Price: £14 / £10 concs (see below *)

British actor and writer Peter Searles, a veteran of stage, screen, and BBC television and radio, gives an intensely dramatic and frequently hilarious account of his journey from the scorching wastes of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile to the shantytowns and smog-laden cities of the south, to a world of forests, lakes, and volcanoes.

Accompanied by oversexed train drivers, a beautiful young revolutionary, out-of-work actors, Marxist priests, fascist police, Chilean Eco-warriors, and Pinochet's neighbors, Searles recounts a journey that turns into a quest for truth and meaning in land torn apart by thirteen years of military dictatorship.

Searles' touring show has won so many rave reviews from major newspapers that it is difficult to decide which ones to quote. But here is a smattering:

"This wonderful and timely one-man play is delivered raconteur-style, direct to the audience. Searles has you in the palm of his hand from the moment he opens his mouth. He is a natural storyteller and talented comedian; everything about the show is understated and spot-on" - The Scotsman

"A bloke stands on a bare stage telling us about a holiday he took in Chile, and an hour and 20 minutes later you are yearning for more. Peter Searles is a riveting storyteller" - The Guardian

"A stand-up storyteller par excellence, Searles could have gone on for another hour and nobody would have batted an eye. He is Britain's answer to Spalding Gray" - Metro

"A stream of polished observations that create what is essentially a well-honed play, nudged to a fresh dramatic level. Searles has struck it rich" - The Stage

Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner Phil Nichol's brand new show follows an incredible two-year run with his last show 'Your Wrong' that played at the last two Edinburgh Festivals and toured across the UK, Europe, SE Asia, Canada and New Zealand this year..

'Too Much' follows the rollercoaster ride of Phil's hilarious relationship with the modern world. And what a confounding, hilarious and messed up world it is. It's too much.

The planet is messed up, society has devolved, mankind is hopeless, vegans are right, you aren't supposed to punch facists, the left are self-righteous morons, everyone is a selfish prick, Phil's a bleeding hypocrite. It's all too much. Too much.

Ask yourself this, what kind of person ends up-

- Naked on The Weakest Link?
- Taking two 75 year olds to Glastonbury?
- Arrested for quoting Derek and Clive on a Virgin Train?
- High on Ecstasy in the back of a police car in Lancaster?
- Surviving a Rocket attack in Kandahar, Afghanistan?
- With his nose broken by a Royal Marine in Thailand?
- Listening to his 90 year old mom tell him how madly in love with his father she is?
Phil Nichol. That's who.

'Too Much' takes an unflinching look at aging, recognition, mental health, values, norms, patience, love, everything and conkers. Expect riotously uncomfortable anecdotes and oversharing delivered in Nichol's unique live-wire style.

Widcombe Nights - Tsonos & McFarlane LIVE (obviously)

David Tsonos & Neil McFarlane smash Bath up really hard in the face and all that.

Yes, good folks of Widcombe and denizens of the greater Bath demilitarized zone, the displaced Jock - a mysterious favourite of the Bath Comedy Festival - and the considerably more-displaced Canuck, are heading their widdershins-way to the Ring O Bells, to put on a completely arbitrary but jolly funny wee show for y'all. So you should come, innit?

Both Dave & Neil have been "at it", as we say in the biz, for about the same length of time - initially in their respective homelands, but they were long ago drawn by the intoxicating lights of London, and now perform in all manner of manors across the UK, plus some strange and sexy places in mainland Europe - like Malta, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Croatia... we could go on but it would become extremely boring.

Anyway, expect a mixture of satire, whimsy, wordplay, observational stand-up and situationist storytelling, and for both acts to get impressively drunk after the show. After all, that's how they became friends in the first place...

David Tsonos
"Very confident, knows his material totally and had the crowd roaring. Good face and voice for comedy, great timing" - The Stand Comedy Club, Edinburgh

Neil McFarlane
"A sparky self-effacing wit which cannot possibly fail to please." - Theatre Bath
"A clear ability to craft a gag." - Chortle
"Fantastic punchlines." - Manchester City Life
"Creamed potato." - The Scotsman

The Fabulous Poodles

Date: Friday 8th November, 2019
Venue: Widcombe Social Club
Doors: 7.30pm for 8.30pm show
Duration: 2hrs incl interval
Price: £15

SOLD OUT

Four decades ago the Fabulous Poodles were one of the hottest live acts on both sides of the Atlantic. They toured almost constantly in the UK, Europe, the USA and Canada. After 40 years, they are set to return with a special pre-London warm-up show for us here in Bath!

In North America they opened for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers on the "Damn The Torpedoes" tour; Sha-na-na; Aerosmith; Ted Nugent (not an ideal pairing) and the Ramones, as well as headlining their own shows in big clubs and small theatres. To say they were hard working is an understatement - at one point they played 78 shows in 73 days.

Their live shows were renowned for being mega-fun and they were often compared to The Who and the Kinks. (The latter probably because of Tony De Meur's and John Parsons' astutely observed songs.) Along with general onstage mayhem and generally pithy lyrics, exploding ukuleles became a bit of a trademark for the Fab Poos…no wonder they were John Peel's favourite band.

Between 1977 and 1979 the group recorded three albums. The first, eponymously titled, was produced by John Entwistle (the only band apart from The Who he produced). It was followed by "Unsuitable" and "Think Pink" both produced by Muff Windwood.

The Fabulous Poodles still embrace two of their most colourful mainstays, Tony De Meur and Bobby Valentino.

Following the success of a 2018 box set, 'Mirror Star', and never ones to let a sleeping dog lie, although admittedly it has been quite a kip, the band have now decided to revisit the live arena.

"This highly recommended box set is a godsend" - Somethingelse Reviews

"This new compilation was sorely needed" - Louder Than War

"What would the late 70s Kinks have sounded like had they prominently featured mandolin and violin? The simple answer: The Fabulous Poodles." - Musoscribe

"Musically tight and lyrically clever to the point where comparisons to the Kinks were more than a coincidence." - Pop Matters

The Australian born Raganoo is, in his own words - “The greatest Character comedian on the planet!”. Along with his other creations like Bob Tap, Raganoo will be on stage in Bath for the first half of the show explaining why he believes Alderton is his worst comedy creation, and why finally he has decided to be himself on stage to show the comedy world his comic prowess!

Although all great things come to an end, to Ranganoo's great disappointment he will be performing as Alderton in the main part of the show. Along with the 'Talking Shoes' and the Drama triangle that are the 'Voices'.

The classic BBC radio series returns...on stage... Roll up, Roll Up! Angus Prune OBE is back, with the Custard Pie of Radio Comedy.

Performed on stage in classic radio comedy style with live music and sound effects, The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group recreates the anarchic and deliciously surreal cult comedy show that laid waste to BBC Radio in the 1960s and 1970s.

Following on from their critically-acclaimed first tour, this second Greatest Hits compilation of original material and songs by Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie is a knockabout show celebrating the radio series that gave birth to The Goodies and Monty Python's Flying Circus - not to mention I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

Stand by for wicked parodies, glorious puns and silly ditties. It's full-frontal radio, live on stage - with the unmistakeable strains of the Angus Prune Tune (and the unavoidable smells of sing-a-long-a-gibbon-stuffing).

This is a chance to meet - or happily catch up with - much-loved characters first created by Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graeme Garden, Sir David Hatch, Jo Kendall and Bill Oddie. There will be a cameo from Tim Brooke-Taylor, one of the original cast members, at this performance.

Produced, Directed & Adapted by Barnaby Eaton-Jones
Featuring Hannah Boydell, Barnaby Eaton-Jones, Ben Perkins and The Farrington Four (Andrew Farrington, Andy Rushton, Cath Thomas and Paul Wood).

Join Pete Searles on the second leg of HEY GRINGO! his internationally acclaimed trilogy.

A bar in Cuzco...in the company of a motley crew of world travellers and drifters, a plot is hatched over a game of darts to pop over the border to seek a fabled cave - rumoured to hold the last of the cosmic secrets. A journey across Bolivia: Lawless cities, seedy bars, prisons, jungle nightclubs, drug-enforcement agents, gun-toting Nazis, a Narco kingpin, giant tarantulas and a marriage-minded female police officer. An odyssey that leads finally to a lost world in remotest Amazonia and the shadow of Cerro Amboro - the great sacred mountain shrouded in mystery and myth.

"Completely captivated the audience. With this mixture of traveller's tales and raw stand-up comedy, spiced with a pinch of mime, Searles may have created a whole new genre of theatre... A natural raconteur of sharp wit." - Bermuda Gazette

"Walking, talking travelogues are a great British tradition, be it Michael Palin on TV or David Hare on stage, and Peter Searles' tale of his Latin American exploits is no exception. Like Indiana Jones on speed, he borders on slapstick as he dances with drunken Indians or demonstrates in Spanish how to catch and cook a tarantula." - The Guardian

Simon Evans' last show, Genius 2.0 (***** "A Masterclass" - The Scotsman) provided an hilarious analysis of the departure of any visible sign of intelligence from modern life.

His new show raises the stakes, with his usual excoriating views of a world on fire given a perspective shift from personal revelations that turned his world upside down this year.

"A gripping and, ultimately heart-warming tale... rich with Evans' wit and caustic observation." **** The Scotsman

"You expect a high standard of stand-up from this veteran performer. But in sharing something so deeply personal, he's exceeded what seemed to be his full potential... I'd expect it to get even better when it goes out on tour. Outstanding stuff." **** ½ Chortle

Doug Stanhope - Diminishing Returns

Date: Thursday 22nd October, 2020
Venue: Bath Pavilion
Doors: 7.00pm for 8.00pm show
Duration: ~2hrs
Price: £35

As seen on BBC TV's Newswipe with Charlie Brooker.
