CANCELLED

We're sorry to report that due to extended commitments abroad, Sarah has regretfully had to cancel her shows in Bath.

One dimwit comedian's every dumb decision. Presented in list form. 50 great mistakes guaranteed.

The acclaimed 2017 Edinburgh Fringe solo stand-up show by the Melbourne-born, London-based comedian.

As heard on BBC Radio 4, 'Sarah Bennetto's Mix-Tape', Glastonbury backstage radio and at the helm of Storytellers' Club.

Warning: Something really, really bad happens to a piñata in this show.

"A generous serving of sterling gags and astutely witty observations." - Steve Bennett, Chortle UK

"In sharing her litany of mistakes, Bennetto covers huge, emotive topics with the lightest of touch and a lightning-fast wit, rattling through stories and quips so quickly that they don't have the opportunity to land too heavily. She's also in perfect command of the pacing, so when she does want to touch hearts as well as minds...it keeps the audience spellbound." **** The Skinny

"With much glee, delight, and wonderfully evocative imagery, Sarah is an excellent performer, frank and genuine, telling relatable stories which are fun and funny. The last mistake is totally unexpected and unheralded – and all the more powerful for being so." **** One4Revew

"Superb. Devastating. Edges towards perfection." **** ThreeWeeks, UK

Julian Dutton - Do You Think That's Wise? - The Life & Times of John Le Mesurier

Date: Saturday 31st March, 2018
Venue: Widcombe Social Club
Doors: 6.30pm for 7.00pm show
Duration: 55min
Price: £10 / £7.50 concs (see below *)

Leading impressionist Julian Dutton brings to life one of Britain's best-loved comedy stars, revealing the man behind the wry smile and urbane English repartee that charmed millions and turned John Le Mesurier into a household name as Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army.

Le Mesurier's life was not without tragedy - his broken marriage to Hattie Jacques, his betrayal by his best friend Tony Hancock - all these setbacks shook him, but his reputation as the quintessential English Gentleman never wavered.

Full of glorious reminiscences and stories from a Golden Age of British Comedy, Julian Dutton's show is a celebration of and an insight into one of the most popular comic actors of our era.

From the co-creator & co-star of BBC1's The Big Impression, BBC R4's The Secret World and BBC2's Pompidou

"An impressionist tour de force" - Independent.

"One of the best vocal performers around" - BBC Comedy

Ever since he was a small boy, all Evans really wanted was to be recognised by the world as a man of genius. He has, until now, remained thwarted.

The world seems increasingly indifferent to true genius of any kind, let alone Evans'. Endlessly distracted by the trivial, we allow the classical tools of grammar, logic and rhetoric to lie unregarded in the shed of consciousness, rusting to a picturesque hue that would actually look really great on Instagram. But which filter? Hmm...

"Super-sharp wit" - Time Out

"Please clap" Jeb Bush

"A masterclass in socio-political comedy...the show is called Genius. It comes very close" ***** The Scotsman

This flagship 5 star cabaret show is here in Bath for a full six day run Sun 1st - Fri 6th April at Bath Comedy Festival's favourite flexible venue and bar - Widcombe Social Club. Don't miss it!

Equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret.

"Not only vocally sublime but a stroke of comedy genius" (TheatrePress), its critically acclaimed stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood return to the U.K. after playing to sold out crowds in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh and across Australia.

Mother's Ruin is a raucous journey through 18th Century London, a few New York speakeasies, the Australian bush and the jungles of Peru. Discover a little more about your favourite drop, with this mixed up musical history lesson delivered with dry wit and "almost symbiotic harmonies" (Adelaide Advertiser).

With music originally performed by Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Martha Wainwright, Tom Waits, The Pretenders, Jessie J and more, Mother's Ruin moves from misery to vaudeville in a moment, intertwining excess and prohibition, history and (re)invention.

"...Marsden and Wood maintain a spot-on balance of larky humour, bolshy political consciousness, palpable passion for their subject and sheer joie de vivre. Well worth raising a glass to." **** The Scotsman

"A raucous masterclass" ***** The Wee Review

"...it's the range, depth, and content of the stories Marsden and Wood tell us, along with the gorgeous harmony of their pure voices, that linger once the cabaret is over." ***** Time Out Sydney

"Blisteringly entertaining… Not everybody falls in love with gin, but I can't imagine too many audience members could resist the charms of Mother's Ruin." **** Daily Review

Nominated Best Cabaret, Perth Fringe World Festival; Best Writing, Green Room Awards; Best Cabaret, Sydney Theatre Awards.

She has appeared in Murder in Successville, Plebs, The IT Crowd and most recently, satirical BBC show The Mash Report. She's also a founder member of smash hit improv show Austentatious.

STOP PRESS - THE BATH PLUG 2018

When Bath Comedy Festival launched the Bath Plug Award, with Terry Jones as our first winner in 2015, followed by subsequent esteemed comedy greats Peter Richardson and Barry Cryer, it may have seemed like a 'lifetime achievement award', but in fact The Bath Plug is awarded every year to those who have proven themselves outstanding comic talents, no matter at which end of their career they are; particularly for good friends of the Festival and performers and writers who have provided a unique voice in British comedy.

Rachel Parris has often returned to Bath, and now her brand of smiling satire has gone viral (in a good way) around the world. We're honoured to make her the 4th recipient of the Festival's prestigious piece of bathroom ephemera, while we can.

At the end of this show there will be a short presentation by co-creators of The Bath Plug - respected aficionado, comedy historian and author Jem Roberts and Festival Director Nick Steel.

Arthur Smith, with the ineffable Smithereens, tells the story of his father, with help from Ray Davies, Leonard Cohen, the London Metropolitan police and Nat King Cole.

Brand new, work in progress show.

After 'Arthur Smith sings Leonard Cohen' ("A delight of a show" **** List), which spoke and sang of his mother, Arthur Smith, once again accompanied by the Smithereens, turns to his father.

In the 1950s PC Syd Smith did night duty on the South Bank and met a gallery of fellow Londoners whom he tried his best not to arrest.

Before then he had been a P.O.W., ending the war in the notorious Colditz Castle. In Germany.

In 'Syd', Arthur quotes words his father wrote and adds his own to consider the story of one man's 20th century and what it tells us about the 21st.

"The Smithereens, Smith's sensational troupe of backing singers...ethereal, playful and beguiling" **** Fest

"There are great songs, in which the Smithereens are spectacular! Poignant, hilarious and thoughtful" - Arthur Smith's website

Thursday 25th October, 2018 - Autumn Season!

Nick Page - Page Against The Machine

Duration: 1hr50 incl interval
Price: £10

Nick Page, semi-finalist in this year's Britain's Got Talent, has been a Bath Comedy favourite for many years.

Earlier this year Cheltenham-born Nick, who classifies himself as ‘educated scum' discovered that his Wikipedia entry had been deleted because he was 'no longer notable' (he had previously been listed as a stand up, writer, and presenter of BBC's Escape to the country…) He thinks this is caused by his refusal to engage with the industry beyond turning up, making audiences laugh and then going home to tinker with lawnmowers!

Nick's unique style of writing and delivery enables him to link things as diverse as police detention in Indonesia, a manifesto for a better world, planning permission, pizza ovens, the world's worst dog and bovine artificial insemination so that they make sense. From failure to failure via a suicide attempt and some more failure, Page is still winning, even if he's still not in Wikipedia!

Recently Nick was awarded the Operational Service Medal after numerous tours in active warzones performing for military (shows varied from main base shows to 12000 down to patrol base gigs for 20). He is currently developing a sitcom about his time in the car trade, which was exactly as villainous and chaotic as you would think! He previously lost a publishing deal for a book about the equestrian world after litigation from his ex wife! He has a degree in International Politics and far Eastern History (useful!). His many other jobs include working as a bouncer, a parliamentary researcher and estate agent, before doing his first gig at 31 for a bet.

With support from Anna Kierle

Award winning Anna Keirle counts Russell Brand among her fans. one of her biggest achievements is winning 'The Weakest Link' , the other is surviving a childhood of mohair jumpers.
"Daffy Cornish bumpkin Keirle has funny in her veins, with a disarming daftness and an endearingly babbling manner...a comedy star" - Chortle

Nick Harper - 58 Fordwych Road

Date: Friday 1st February, 2019

Doors: 7.30pm for 8.00pm show
Duration: 2hrs
Price: £15

Nick Harper is one the UK's best kept musical secrets. Those who have witnessed the spellbinding, one-man show will tell you this.

A childhood growing up surrounded by the musical prowess of some of the 60's most revered songwriters & musicians, not to mention being son of Roy Harper, along with 20 years of crafting songs & touring the land has spawned a truly one-off, original guitarist & songwriter who stands alone as a UK great, to be cherished & revered.

'58 Fordwych Road' is an all new show that centres around a living room in a small flat in Kilburn, London in the mid 1960s. Then the abode of up-and-coming singer-songwriter Roy Harper & his wife Mocy. The flat was an after hours hang-out for the legends who played at Les Cousins in Soho at the height of the acoustic explosion in swingin' sixties London.

People like Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, Paul Simon, Marc Bolan, Sandy Denny & others dropped in, to drop out, jam & try new tunes. But, all along, there was someone else there...a toddler, part of the family, inhaling the music & absorbing the vibe; Roy's young son, Nick Harper. Nick later carved out his own career in music, but in this unique & one-off show he plays tribute to the time, the place & to the music that became the centre of everything for him & the rest of this 'family'.

The show will run over two halves. The first will see Nick delve into the deluge of songs he heard direct from the greats when growing up. In the second Nick will trace the journey of how these luminary figures' music evolved & helped shape popular music beyond the sixties & revisit the eternal themes that run from then to now in songs of his own fine repertoire.

"Harper has so much musicianship in him it just leaks out all over the place" - The Times
"He deserves to become a major figure in his own right" - The Guardian
"Dylan for the iPod generation...Betjemen with a guitar" - Guitarist
"My musical discovery of 2016!" - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
"One of the finest guitarists of his generation" - Mojo
"Acoustic Hendrix!" - Guitar Magazine
"Hey, the boy is good!" - Robert Plant
"That boy is too good." - Bert Jansch
