Buddy Hell is a comedian, satirist entertainer who combines music, poetry and improvisation. Buddy continues in the alternative comedy traditions of anti-racism and anti-sexism, and plays with form and content.
"I see myself as the comedy equivalent of an automatist painter; a sort of abstract expressionist who paints with words."
Under his real name, Ray Campbell, he's a published academic author. His recent book, 'A Cultural History of British Alternative Cabaret (1979-1991)' examines the lesser-known side of alternative comedy and some of its forgotten heroes. He has also written extensively about cabaret as a performance genre.
