Arthur Smith, with the ineffable Smithereens, tells the story of his father, with help from Ray Davies, Leonard Cohen, the London Metropolitan police and Nat King Cole.

Brand new, work in progress show.

After 'Arthur Smith sings Leonard Cohen' ("A delight of a show" **** List), which spoke and sang of his mother, Arthur Smith, once again accompanied by the Smithereens, turns to his father.

In the 1950s PC Syd Smith did night duty on the South Bank and met a gallery of fellow Londoners whom he tried his best not to arrest.

Before then he had been a P.O.W., ending the war in the notorious Colditz Castle. In Germany.

In 'Syd', Arthur quotes words his father wrote and adds his own to consider the story of one man's 20th century and what it tells us about the 21st.

"The Smithereens, Smith's sensational troupe of backing singers...ethereal, playful and beguiling" **** Fest

"There are great songs, in which the Smithereens are spectacular! Poignant, hilarious and thoughtful" - Arthur Smith's website

"Arthur Smith's your man...a comic sage" ***** Mail on Sunday
